Fiber Reinforced Plastics (FRP) are composites made from Reinforced Fiber materials, such as glass Fiber, carbon Fiber, aramid Fiber, etc., and matrix materials through winding, molding or pull-extrusion, etc. According to the different reinforcing materials, common fiber reinforced composites are divided into glass fiber reinforced composites (GFRP), carbon fiber reinforced composites (CFRP) and aramid fiber reinforced composites (AFRP).
Fiber reinforced composites have the following characteristics :
(1) high specific strength and high specific modulus;
(2) material properties with designability :
(3) good corrosion resistance and durability;
(4) the thermal expansion coefficient is close to that of concrete.
These characteristics make FRP materials can meet the modern to the large-span structure, towering, overloading, light weight, high strength, and the needs of the development of work in harsh conditions, at the same time also can meet the requirements of modern construction industrialization, therefore it is being more widely used in all kinds of civil buildings, Bridges, roads, ocean structures, hydraulic structures and underground structures.
