SGL Carbon will provide solutions for the automotive, aerospace and industrial applications markets with the motto of weight and performance optimization at this year’s CAMX show in Anaheim, California, from September 23rd to 26th, the largest in North America Composites trade fair.
At the show, the company will showcase a wide range of high performance materials and components made from composite materials. Visitors will be able to see examples of technical implementation.
Complex carbon composition
For the automotive industry, the company demonstrated visible carbon components with high functional integration. The requirements for the structure and fit accuracy of the components are very complex. Furthermore, in the production of components, there is often a wide range of surface requirements for the optically perfect appearance of the components.

This will be shown at the show booth, with a rear spoiler made of carbon fiber fabric for the sports car manufacturer.
New shaft concept with fiberglass leaf spring
Leaf springs made of glass fiber reinforced plastic (GRP) are one of the greatest potential for mass production. It has now been used as a transverse leaf spring for various models of rear axles manufactured by Volvo. The main advantage of the spring is that it is 65% lighter than conventional steel springs, with smoother vehicle operation and greater interior space. It is currently being implemented in a new partnership with a well-known car manufacturer, mainly from Europe and North America.
Insulation of the engine fairing or aircraft cabin insulation plays an important role here. High performance insulation components are SGL Carbon’s proven and certified aerospace solutions.

They are tailored to customer requirements. These products are produced at the SGL Carbon plant in Arkadelphia, Arkansas.
Composite materials are also increasingly used in the industrial sector. At CAMX, SGL Carbon will showcase a crossbar made of carbon fiber reinforced plastic (CFRP) for the automation industry. In addition to high strength and high rigidity, the main advantages of CFRP materials are their low thermal expansion and good damping characteristics.
“We look forward to participating in CAMX 2019 with great interest. As a reliable and innovative partner in the North American market, the show is an ideal platform to showcase our customers, “SGL Carbon Composites – Fiber and Materials Business Unit Sales and Marketing Industry Dennis Baumann, vice president of applications, commented. “From fiber to finished components, we offer customized solutions from a single source across all industries.”
