Renault introduces the Megane RS Trophy-R with carbon fiber wheels
Renault introduced the Megane RS Trophy-R, a racing-ready vehicle with integrated carbon fiber wheels and other improvements in lightweight and aerodynamics.
Based on the Megane RS Trophy, the \’R\’ version is more like a racing car with the same 300hp engine, but with enhanced aerodynamics and a weight reduction of 130kg (excluding optional items). The car weighs only 1,306 kilograms and has a power-to-weight ratio of 4.35 kilograms per horsepower. Light weight, increased power, and increased car flexibility and performance.
Carbon Revolution’s CR-9 carbon fiber wheels are an integral part of the overall weight loss program. Headquartered in Victoria, Australia, Carbon Revolution produces the world’s only mass-produced integrated carbon fiber wheel. The wheels are lightweight and offer unmatched rigidity, saving fuel, improving steering accuracy and providing excellent braking and suspension performance compared to conventional aluminum wheels.
The new carbon fiber glass composite hood with NACA (National Aviation Advisory Committee) air intake has made a significant contribution to the lightweighting of the Megane RS Trophy-R. The carbon fiber rear diffuser also adds weight loss. CR-9 carbon fiber wheels each lose 2kg. The air intake, exhaust pipe and lightweight rear axle also lost extra weight and saved 38 kg by using a non-directional option.
The results of the advanced engineering and lightweighting program were validated at the Nordschleife Motorsport, where the Megane RS Trophy-R released the front-wheel drive production vehicle record set time of 7\’40” at 20.6 km (12.8 miles). One lap, the entire formal circle of 7\’45″389 reference time.
The Megane RS Trophy-R will be available at the end of 2019 as a limited edition of hundreds of sets.
