The new Ottawa-based spin-off involves the distribution of renewable raw materials and semi-finished products for the manufacture of parts made of long-fiber reinforced thermoplastics and is LFT’s leading partner as a partner. Headquartered in Pune, India, SKYi Composites is part of the SKYi Group and has large production facilities in India.

Long fiber reinforced thermoplastics are particularly important in the automotive industry because they are injection molded and can reduce weight while maintaining high load carrying capacity. LFT uses a so-called extrusion process to produce fibers having a particle length. In this method, the fiber bundle is drawn through the polymer melt, embedded in the polymer matrix and pelletized after cooling. The quality of the impregnation determines the quality of the subsequent parts. Different combinations of polymer matrix and fiber material produce a variety of possible LFT materials. The manufacturing process is patented to reduce machine wear during processing while maintaining the same performance.

SKYi Composites was founded to develop environmentally friendly and sustainable solutions and is well suited as a partner of BüfaThermoplasticComposites. They are also pioneers in the development of various products such as PET-LFT or PA66 LCF.
